As youth coaches at Manheim Township, we have a tremendous responsibility for the young men in our program…not to create 10 year old champions; but to make responsible young men. Performance excellence through personal excellence…THAT is Twp wrestling. Spanning over five decades, our wrestling program has continued this rich heritage of building strong men; physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.
We focus on building strong character traits in our young student-athletes with wrestling as the vehicle. These traits will serve them well in their studies, when making decisions about using drugs or not, when moving into the work force as young adults…discipline, respect, integrity…these are traits that describe our wrestlers…our success is measured by our character, not wins and losses. In a time when our children are seeking to fit in and to be part of something…we want them to be part of something great…developing the bond and fraternal brotherhood that is never broken:
“I may not weigh the same as you…I may not lift as much as you…..I may only be in my first year and you in your fifth….I may have a different pinning combination than you….And I may not always win my matches like you do….BUT
I know what it means to work out until my body burns. I know what it means to make sacrifices. I know what it means to stand alone, in the middle of the mat, with no excuses to why I won or lost. I know what it means to be disciplined, dedicated and determined unlike most boys and men my own age. I know what it means to never accept the word ‘QUIT’. I know this because win or lose, I am a wrestler!”
