Recent High-School Happenings

It has been a busy few weeks for the Manheim Township wrestling team. Back in December, the Blue Streaks took home the team trophy at the Penn Manor Holiday tournament. It came down to the wire, as Township was trailing first place going into the heavy weight bout finals. Thankfully, Tyrese Washington was ready to be the hero the team needed. He secured the win in dramatic fashion, scoring the go ahead takedown with less than 10 seconds left in the match. The win propelled the steaks into first place for the tournament. While it came down to Tyrese putting it away with his victory, it was a great team effort all around.

Louis Malave placed 4th, Kamdyn Williams 2nd, Josh Hilliard took home the title, Aliazer Alicea 2nd, Juan Colon 7th, Kevin Olavarria took home the title, Michael O'hara 5th.

Following the Penn Manor tournament, the high school squad faced a tall task when they attended one of the toughest tournaments in the entire country, the Powerade. It was an effort championed by our ladies, where they competed in the girls only portion of the tournament.

Yenyia Terry earned herself wrestler of the week for the streaks as she dropped only one match on the weekend and secured second place. Bella Baccio and Zoe Caloviras also battled hard and came away with hardware.

The rest of the weekend proved to be difficult for the Blue Streaks as the men were unable to secure any spots on the podium, Despite the lack of medals, it proved to be a great experience up and down the line up. The team was able to compete with the best of the best, and hopefully became better individuals because of the experience.

The High School got back to their winning ways in their dual against J P Mccaskey. The final score was 53-16 in favor of the Streaks. The win came on the back of pins by Hillard (132), Zeyak (145), Olavarria (189, just for the night), and Williams (113) as well as a tech fall by Colon (160).

Another highlight of the night was our female grapplers making Lancaster- Lebanon League History as they participated in the first all girls dual meet of the league. It was a small and modified dual, but we were able to have to matches between the girls. While neither match went the way of the Streaks, there is a lot to be proud of for the girl's program.

Coming up: Thursday is our first home dual of the season. Wrestling starts at 7 at Manheim Township High School. Following that, on Saturday morning we will be hosting our Blue Streak Duals. Wrestling Starts at 9 in the Arena.
